SOJEE a.k.a Sophia Ng is a Singaporean illustrator based in Hong Kong. She earned a B.F.A in Illustration at Savannah College of Art & Design (SCAD) in 2017.
Catered to anyone who is still a child at heart, my artwork aims to add liveliness and fun to the mundane. I recall doodling in a math class as the best moments of my childhood, and that spreading creativity would be my devoted passion.
Growing up in the digital age, I admit that I am heavily influenced by pop culture. I love to create trendy content with a touch of my own personality. Drawing bespectacled girls is how I represents myself. When it comes to serious topics, animal rights, social and environmental issues are my main concerns.
Wild about doodling intuitively, my art style is cartoonish, quirky and sometimes whimsical. The use of a graphical style and vibrant colors help draw attention and create a cheerful mood. To make the art pieces more engaging, I would turn static images into simple animated GIFs. I primarily use Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator to create my pieces and is able to work swiftly in most circumstances.
I have always been fascinated by Taiwanese children book’s illustrator Jimmy Liao. Diving into his fairy tale world and and taking a break from reality keeps me inspired and recharged at all times. I am also learning a sense of humor from local illustrator Yan Ip, better known as “Plastic Thing”.
Having lived in different places such as Singapore, Hong Kong and U.S.A, my broadened worldviews enables me to constantly explore new ideas, thoughts and knowledge. Still a child at heart, I genuinely embrace curiosity and wonder.
